Law enforcement officers will be on the road to try and stop impaired drivers.

HAZEL GREEN, Ala. — If you're driving in the Hazel Green area tonight, keep an eye out for traffic checkpoints and make sure you're following the rules of the road. The Madison County Sheriff's Office is conducting traffic safety checkpoints between 6:30 pm and 3:00 am.

The goal is to identify and stop impaired drivers, but deputies will be looking for other violations as well, from not wearing seatbelts to outstanding warrants. If you are pulled over, have your driver’s license, proof of insurance, and vehicle registration ready to show to law enforcement. Anyone suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs may be assessed by specially trained officers.

According to MCSO, drivers caught driving impaired can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to include jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes, and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.
