HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Madison County Sheriff’s Office has issued a public alert following an increase in scam calls targeting local residents.

Authorities say scammers are calling people and lying about them having warrants or being involved in crimes. These calls often demand immediate payment of fines or penalties.

In a statement released on social media, the Sheriff’s Office cautioned that these fraudulent calls may display official-looking phone numbers on caller IDs, including numbers resembling those of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. This tactic, known as "caller ID spoofing," aims to trick potential victims into believing the calls are legitimate.

To ensure community safety, officials emphasized that the Madison County Sheriff’s Office does not call people asking for donations, inform individuals about warrants, or request payments such as money transfers or gift cards to resolve legal matters.

Anyone who receives a suspicious call is advised not to provide any personal or financial information. Instead, MCSO recommends hanging up and contacting the Madison County Sheriff’s Office directly.

For further information or to report a suspicious call, visit the Madison County Sheriff’s Office website.
