MADISON, Ala. — Madison mayor Paul Finley has announced he will not seek a fourth term. This comes just days after speaking to residents at Toyota Field during a State of the City address at the "Celebrate Madison" event at Toyota Field.
During comments at his news conference, he said he wants to spend more time with his family and that he "didn’t plan on the bonus year after the covid year."

After twelve years of dedicated service as the City of Madison Mayor, Paul Finley has announced he will not seek re-election for a fourth term in office. Mayor Finley’s tenure has been marked by his unwavering commitment to enhancing the quality of life, managing responsible growth, and building meaningful partnerships throughout the Tennessee Valley community.
Reflecting on his decision, Mayor Finley said, “Serving as Mayor of this incredible city has been the honor of my lifetime and truly the highlight of my professional career. Together, we’ve worked to build a thriving community, and I am deeply grateful for the trust the residents of Madison have placed in me to lead. Now, it’s time to make space for new voices and ideas that will continue to shape our city’s future.”
Throughout his time in office, Mayor Finley has prioritized initiatives that support sustainable development, protecting and increasing green spaces to improve quality of life, and enhance public safety. Madison remains an inclusive and vibrant place through his leadership during major projects; including, the [Target] Shoppes of Madison center, establishing Madison Hospital in the community, the addition of James Clemens High School, and notably, Toyota Field and the Town Madison District. His most recent tenure marks the opening of the new Madison Community Center, growing opportunities for our Senior Center as well as all ages and abilities.
Finley's emphasis on committed leadership has increased engagement with residents and fostered a more accessible local government. “I am so proud of what we have accomplished together and am confident Madison’s brightest days lie ahead,” Mayor Finley added. “Working with our City of Madison team, we will finish strong, maintaining our focused responsibility to improving quality of life."
The Mayor’s decision marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Madison, and he remains fully dedicated to serving the community until the end of his current term. City of Madison municipal elections will be held August 26, 2025.
