MADISON, Ala. — The Madison Police Department has announced that registration is now open for its Rape, Aggression, Defense (RAD) classes. This free self-defense program is designed for women, focusing on awareness, prevention, and risk reduction before moving on to hands-on defense techniques.
The RAD course will be held from September 23 to September 25 and consists of three evening sessions. Each participant will receive a workbook and reference manual that outlines the entire Physical Defense Program. This manual supports ongoing practice and includes a lifetime return and practice policy for R.A.D. graduates.
The first session covers risk reduction and personal safety techniques. The second session involves learning and practicing physical defense moves, while the final session features a voluntary simulation of an attack. Participation in the simulation is optional, but those attending must be present for all three sessions to complete the course.
The RAD program is exclusively for women and is not a martial arts class. Mothers and daughters aged 12 and older are encouraged to join the program.
Those interested should submit their registration forms to Teresa Taylor-Duncan at teresa.taylor-duncan@madisonal.gov before the course begins.
