Look for signs like someone who’s inappropriately dressed for the weather outside, or someone who is asking questions beyond normal curiosity-- about which residents live in each home.

But, it's important to note, this person could just be a neighbor you haven’t met before. If their behavior is indicative of clear criminal activity, like breaking into a home or checking door handles on parked cars -- then call for help.

But, remember to leave your own prejudices at the door.

Sgt. Tanner Ward from the MPD Patrol Division says during the Facebook post, “We are an extremely diverse and unique city with neighbors of all races, creeds and religions. Therefore, we should never use skin color or cultural dress as the sole basis as a 9-1-1 suspicious person call.”

MPD is encouraging you to enjoy the spring weather and get to know your neighbors-- from six feet away.
