A new water tank coming to Madsion County as part of water infrastructure improvements

Projects for water infrastructure improvement include a new water tank and an updated piping system.

MADISON COUNTY, ALABAMA, Ala. — Madison County is one of the fastest growing counties in the state and the need for adequate water service has become priority. "As we grow in the county, of course, the demand for water and the service and the infrastructure that's needed to provide that to the customers is growing," Madsion County Commission Chair Mac McCutcheon shares. "We've got to keep up with the infrastructure, make sure we improve on it, and keep it adequate to where we're not having a lot of water loss."

Seven projects including a new water tank look to improve the availability of water in the county. Madison County commissioner Phil Riddick shares these projects includes updating the current system. "In years past, the water department spent a lot of time running around fixing leaks and things like that and because of some of the pipe that was used back then was not as reliable. There was close to just under two miles of new water main approved and that is to replace older pipe that more prone to leak but also increase the capacity of the water flow through the pipe."

According to McCutcheon, one key reason for these projects has to do with the number of subdivisions being developed in the county. "In every commission meeting we you'll see on the agenda we have approval for subdivisions. I mean, every week we continue to grow and there's more people moving into the county area. well, we can't just sit back and just assume that what we have now is going to be adequate. we've got to prepare and plan ahead."
