LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Ala. — The Lauderdale County District Attorney gave an update on the investigation of the murder of Connie Ridgeway. A man is under arrest in the case.
Casey Cole White has been charged with two counts of capital murder after indictments were handed down by a Lauderdale County grand jury in August od 2020. The two charges are murder during a first-degree burglary and one count of murder for pecuniary gain.
District Attorney Chris Connolly said that while White was an inmate with the Alabama Department of Corrections, he sent a letter to Lt. Brad Potts with the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office. When Potts met with White, White confessed to the murder of Connie Ridgeway, sharing crime scene information that was not publicly known. White claims he was paid to kill Ridgeway. That led to the charge of murder for pecuniary gain, and Connolly says this claim is still being investigated.
Connolly reminded the public that an indictment is only an accusation and that White is still considered innocent until proven guilty.
White is in the Lauderdale County Jail without bond. He was previously housed in the William E. Donaldson Correctional Facility, where he was serving 75 years for convictions for Attempted Murder, Burglary I, Kidnapping I (2 counts), Unlawful Breaking and Entering Vehicle, Robbery I, and Burglary III.
