MLK Day celebrations happening across the Tennessee Valley

Several events are planned to celebrate and honor the civil rights icon and his legacy.
Locals to honor MLK in annual Day of Service

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Several events are holding celebrations in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 15. We have a list below of some that are taking place across the Tennessee Valley. 

Annual Athens-Limestone Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Celebration - The King Unity March will take place at 9 a.m. on January 15. The event will have a wreath laying and march to the Veterans Museum. The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Program and 19th Annual Essay and Art Contest Award ceremony will happen at 9:30 a.m. 

Martin Luther King Unity Breakfast - The event will have over 1,300 attendees at the Von Braun Center North Hall.

2024 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Celebration Parade - The parade will be held on Saturday, January 13, at 12 p.m. in Huntsville. Details can be found here.

MLK Jr. Day Family Swim Event - A free family swim will take place on January 15 from 3 - 4:30 p.m. in Madison. 

MLK Youth Basketball Clinic hosted by Huntsville Parks & Recreation - The free event is set to take place on Sunday, Jan. 14, from 1-4 p.m. at the Dr. Richard Showers, Sr., Recreation Center. Full details can be found here.

Martin Luther King Basketball Clinic - Grit and Grind Sports Academy in Athens will be hosting a basketball clinic on January 15 at 10 a.m. 

2024 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Program - UAH will be hosting their annual reflection and celebration of the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Thursday, January 11 from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. in the UAH Student Services Building, Room 112.

MLK Health Fair - The Health Fair will be on January 13 at the North Highland Church in Dothan. The event runs from 9 - 11 a.m. There will also be events happening January 14 and 15, full details can be found here.
