Local organization gives scholarship to single mom in Huntsville

The Mommy and Me organization works to support mothers in the Tennessee Valley.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala — The Mommy and Me Organization is a nonprofit started by Huntsville native, Ashley Hunt, that works to provide support to mothers in the Tennessee Valley.

The nonprofit held a free music festival on Saturday, November 6 to raise awareness and support for the hardships that single mothers face.

Some of the proceeds went to help Nina Espinoza, a single mother of 10-year-old Elijah and 9-year-old Elias. Espinoza is enrolled in the Master's Program at Alabama A&M University studying social work.

"I was invited to the last event and I saw someone else win the scholarship so for this time, for me to be winning it, I am very very excited and very very grateful," Espinoza said.

Earlier this year, Hunt held a Scholarship Brunch event with special guests from the reality TV show Love and Marriage Huntsville. The money from that event also went towards helping a single mom in need.

This is the last big event of the year for the Mommy and Me organization, but there are other ways to get involved. Visit their Facebook page to learn more.
