DECATUR, Ala. — Three new projects are underway in downtown Decatur. A new hotel, parking deck, and dorms for Alabama Center for the Arts students will bring new growth and opportunities for the River City.
Mayor Tab Bowling has a front-row seat. "It's really something just to be able to look out our window and see the dirt that's being moved." And soon, the pile of dirt will be a new Fairfield Inn, a downtown parking deck, and eateries on the bottom floor of that deck. Retail businesses could be coming, too.
The third addition will be college dormitories to house 100 Alabama Center for the Arts students. And the eateries will be important because the dorms will not have kitchen facilities and the hotel will not have a restaurant. Bowling says, "They will not have kitchen facilities in the dorms, so they're really looking for places to eat and to have eateries at the new parking deck would just make good sense."
The new parking deck and dormitories are set to be completed by May of 2023. The Fairfield Inn should be completed by fall of 2023.
