TANNER, Ala. — UPDATE: Athens Fire & Rescue report the Tanner wood pallet fire is under control and responders are waiting on a bulldozer.
Multiple crews are on the scene of a wood fire pallet fire in Tanner. The blaze, which cause a large plume of smoke visible for miles, is on Gary Redus Drive near Huntsville Brownsferry Rd. The Tanner fire was directly behind several homes.
Athens Fire, one of the agencies, said they responded at 3:57 pm to the pallet plant fire at the pole barn in Tanner. Some Athens Fire & Rescue crews were then pulled from the Tanner fire to an apartment fire on Elm St. on Athens. Owens Volunteer Fire Department was headed to Tanner and rerouted to West Elm to help Athens with the apartment fire.
One apartment has heavy damage and other units have smoke and/or water damage. That fire is under control.
