HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — We hear a lot about Huntsville’s growth and development. However, the quality of life here is just as important.
The city and Arts Huntsville have joined a National Fitness Campaign to install art fitness installations throughout the city.
“So here at Arts Huntsville we’re really excited because we’re welcoming four new Art and Fitness installations, which are really unique intersections between public art and public fitness for the public to experience over the next two years,” said Arts Huntsville Executive Director, Allison Dillon-Jauken.
The new additions will be located at:
Apollo Park - adjacent to MidCity
John Hunt Park - near the cross-country course
Legacy Park at Johnson Legacy Center
California Street Park
Apollo Park and John Park will feature art from late rend will feature art from late renowned artists Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring respectively.
John Hunt Park will be completed by the fall, and Legacy Park and Apollo Park should be completed by the end of this year.
“There are more people coming to Huntsville to experience the art, but there’s also people moving here because of our quality of life, and with the National Fitness Campaign Installation, we’ll now be able to have that outdoor museum experience, with two of the installations,” said Dillon-Jauken.
She also said art awareness is even more so on the rise. “We have a thriving arts community here in Huntsville, so this is a great way to showcase our outdoor recreation, and our great public park system but also celebrates our great location, but also celebrate our great local art scene.”
Local artists will have a chance to compete for space on the remaining two structures. Details will be provided this Spring.
