New full-service grocery opens Wednesday in Fort Payne

Food City store adds a new shopping option in DeKalb County

FORT PAYNE, Ala — The newest addition to the shopping scene in DeKalb County is set to open its doors.

A 54,000 square-foot Food City supermarket welcomes its first customers on Wednesday.

The store is located at 1015 Gault Avenue South and features a bakery, deli, hot food bar, and fresh food bar offering soupes, salads, and fruit.

Pizzas will be baked in an on-site brick oven and fresh sushi will be prepared daily.

The store includes a floral boutique, pharmacy, and gas station, as well.

“Our customers can expect to find exceptional customer service and top-quality products at the lowest possible prices, along with great variety (and) selection and some exciting new services,” Food City president and CEO Steven C. Smith said in a statement.

A mix of traditional and self-service checkout lanes will be used to complete the shopping experience. Options for online ordering, home delivery, and curbside pickup are also available.

Doors open to the public Wednesday at 8 a.m.

The Virginia-based company is in the midst of a major expansion in Alabama. After opening its first Alabama store just three years ago, Food City announced plans to add stores in several cities.

Last year, they said the expansion would add six supermarkets in Huntsville alone.

The overall investment in the city is estimated to be $90 million. The company says more than 1,300 jobs will be added before the end of the decade.

There are currently more than 150 Food City stores open across Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia.
