Huntsville leaders break ground on new $9.5 Million library

This library will also include an outside vendor coffee shop, private study rooms, and children's storytime room.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Book lovers, rejoice! There's a new library coming to South Huntsville.

Mayor Tommy Battle, major donors, and local leaders broke ground at what will be the new 'South Huntsville Library'.

The new library will be located at the Sandra Moon Complex on Bailey Cove Road, where Grissom High School used to be.

The old South Huntsville Library was on Weatherly Plaza. That location opened in 1997, and was built to be an Ace Hardware store.

This $9.5 Million library includes state-of-the art technology, an art exhibition, and an outside vendor coffee shop. Mayor Battle says the new upcoming libraries are a must for the community.

"Literacy is important for every section in town. We just broke ground for North Huntsville library. We've got South Huntsville Library, Mid-town Library, all of it adds together to a community that believes in the ability to read, to learn, to educate. If we can do that then we're going to be a successful community," said Mayor Battle.

The library is expected to open in April of next year.
