North Alabama utility crews assisting with storm relief in Tennessee, South Carolina

Huntsville Utilities, Athens Utilities, Decatur Utilities and Joe Wheeler EMC have crews heading to areas damaged by Hurricane Helene.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Huntsville Utilities, Athens, Utilities, and Decatur Utilities are sending crews to areas damaged by Hurricane Helene to assist in recovery efforts.

Friday afternoon, Huntsville Utilities received a mutual aid request from Bristol Tennessee Essential Services, which was hit particularly hard by the remnants of Hurricane Helene. A few hours later, nine of their lineworkers began their trip to Bristol. 

According to a post on Facebook, six crew members from the Decatur Utilities Electric Operations work group are heading to Winchester, South Carolina to assist with power restoration in the wake of Hurricane Helene. 

Athens Utilities has sent a six person line crew and equipment to assist Erwin Utilities in Erwin Tennessee near Knoxville.

Joe Wheeler EMC posted on Facebook that three two-man line crews headed out to assist Palmetto Electric Cooperative in Hardeeville, SC, as they work to restore power after the impacts of Hurricane Helene. With more than 9,500 members still experiencing outages across their service area, Palmetto EC has been working around the clock to bring the lights back on.

Fayetteville Public Utilities has also deployed crews to affected areas.
