When is the election? FOX54 Voter Guide: Things you must know for Nov. 5

Key dates, local and state races, and more information you need ahead of the November election.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Voters will be heading to the polls in the Nov. 5, 2024 elections to pick the next president of the United States. Former President Donald Trump and current Vice President Kamala Harris top the ballot. There are several key races that people in North Alabama and voters across the state will decide.

In Alabama, voters will determine:

  • Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice 
  • Associate Justice of Supreme Court (Places 1, 2, 3, and 4)
  • Court of Criminal Appeals (Places 1, 2, and 3)
  • Court of Civil Appeals (Places 1, 2, and 3) 
  • Public Service Commission (President) 
  • State Board of Education (Districts 1,3,5, and 7) 
  • Circuit Court Judges (various seats) 
  • District Court Judges (various seats)

Important dates for the Nov. 5 general election

The State of Alabama does not currently allow early in-person voting. Absentee voting is the only alternative way for voters to cast ballots.

Last day to apply for an absentee ballot by mail

October 31, 2024
Last day to apply for an absentee ballot in person

November 4, 2024
Last day to hand-deliver an absentee ballot

November 5, 2024
General Election

November 5, 2024
Absentee ballots returned by mail must be received by noon, except for persons casting absentee ballots pursuant to the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA voters)
