HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — CORRECTION: Huntsville police issued a correction to a Sunday morning statement regarding a Saturday night shooting on Meridian St. Officials now say that one person was killed and another critically injured, on life support, and not expected to survive.
The person who was killed has been identified as Damien Obrien Manning.
According to today's statement:
"Shortly before 10 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, a Huntsville Police officer was patrolling in the 3300 block of Meridian Street heard multiple gun shots. Several officers responded to a gas station at 3310 Meridian Street and found Damien Obrien Manning, 22, with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
"HPD was notified by Huntsville Hospital around 10 p.m. that a second gunshot victim had arrived at the hospital. The individual was transported by a personal vehicle for treatment and is in critical condition.
"The HPD Major Crimes Unit is investigating several leads but believe several individuals fired shots from opposing sides of the parking lot, putting others in danger."
The incident remains under investigation.
