Free grocery giveaways in the Tennessee Valley

Food giveaways are coming up in communities across North Alabama.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — With the current inflation causing higher grocery prices, many individuals and families may find it a financial struggle to put food on the table.

Upcoming grocery giveaways:

MADISON COUNTY

Building Church, 845 Slaughter Rd, Madison, Alabama 35758 United States - Map

We bring 20,000-30,000 pounds of food to a parking lot, where volunteers sort and distribute it all to our neighbors in need. We pride ourselves on providing fresh and healthy foods, as well as items that are easily prepared and cooked. We do not ask questions or have requirements for those receiving food.

Volunteers to arrive at 7:30 AM, drive thru distribution starts at approximately 9:00 AM and ends at 10:30 AM.

Food is distributed on a first come, first served basis.

DEKALB COUNTY

15,000-25,000 lbs. of food will be dropped off in a parking lot, where volunteers will be waiting to sort and distribute it all to our neighbors in need. We pride ourselves on providing fresh and healthy foods, as well as things that are easily prepared and cooked. We do not ask questions or have requirements for people who can receive food.

On March 16, Food Bank of North Alabama and CNAHSI will give away free bags of fresh produce and Covid-19 at-home test kits from 11 am to 2 pm, or while supplies last, at the Huntsville Family Health Center at 751 Pleasant Row.

On March 19, Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church will give away 400 food boxes starting at 8:00 a.m. The church is at 315 Winchester Rd. NE in Huntsville. This is a drive-thru event.

One Generation Away also wants to help!

One Generation Away is partnering with Refuge Church and multiple Marshall County Churches to hold a food distribution for individuals and families in need on Saturday, March 26th.

This event will be free, and no questions will be asked to those who attend. Anyone in need of food for the week can come and receive fresh, high-quality produce, dry and canned goods, and packaged goods. No registration for the event will be necessary. 

These food drives will be drive-thru distribution events and will take place from 9-11:00 a.m. at Milton Frank Stadium, as well as, Marshall Technical School.

Those who are planning to attend are encouraged to come early, as it will be first come, first served.

In addition, these events are great volunteer opportunities for anybody or any family who wants to help make a difference in their communities. Volunteers are needed to help sort food, load groceries into cars, and, if they are comfortable with doing so, pray with individuals and families. Depending on the job, volunteers will work from 7-11:30 a.m.
