HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The United States Postal Service is opening the window for its annual "Operation Santa" campaign -- a program to help families in need during the holiday season.

USPS will begin accepting letters on Sept. 16. The application period will conclude on Dec. 16.

The letters are reviewed and then routed to volunteers who help "Santa" fulfill family wishes.

Letters should be sent to Santa, 123 Elf Road, North Pole, 88888. Include your full name and return address along with your apartment number in the upper left corner, and be sure to affix a first class stamp.

The letter should be specific and should list desired gifts in order of preference.

Those who want to be an elf can still sign up. Volunteers can work in a team or individually to provide joy to others over the holidays.
