Free backpack and food distribution on July 15 at Calhoun Community College

40,000 pounds of food and more than 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies will be given to Huntsville students at no charge.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Back-to-school is coming up fast and the City of Huntsville is helping students with backpacks, school supplies, and food. On July 15, 40,000 pounds of food and more than 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies will be given away.

The annual Community Awareness for Youth (C.A.F.Y.) event will take place at Calhoun’s Huntsville Campus, 102 Wynn Drive. The first-come, first-served grocery drive-thru will kick off at 9 a.m. and continue until 11 a.m. or supplies run out. The C.A.F.Y. backpack giveaway will begin at noon. And it's more than just giveaways. There will be student and family resources, music and entertainment, inflatables and more.

The event is a joint effort between City of Huntsville’s Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion will join Refuge Church, OneGenAway, Huntsville City Schools and Calhoun Community College.
