OWENS CROSS ROADS, Ala. — A facility for troubled girls was set to shut down on Tuesday after a riot earlier in September raised concerns among city officials and police. However, the facility appears to remain open.
The City of Owens Cross Roads says they are focused on ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents.
In a recent statement, city officials expressed their commitment to maintaining high standards for local businesses.
"The peaceful well-being of our community is our top priority as a municipality. We wish for all residents, whether long term or just presently so at this time, to know that we are working diligently to ensure all businesses located in our community are operating at the highest level.
We have that expectation for any business that is extended the privilege of holding an Owens Cross Roads issued business license. As this matter relates to minor children, the City has been advised by counsel to limit any response to this statement at this time. As we move forward, we will update as necessary.
Owens Cross Roads is a growing and welcoming place, both in a residential and commercial sense, that we are all fortunate to call home."
The statement follows the city's order for the Pathway of Madison County psychiatric facility to close after a September 2 incident where six juveniles were arrested for inciting a riot and damaging property.
City officials indicated that they expect all businesses holding an Owens Cross Roads business license to operate properly.
FOX54 spoke with the facility on Wednesday, where they confirmed that they are still open.
