Perkins federal civil rights lawsuit dismissed against three officers, City of Decatur

Three of the four officers on the scene of Steve Perkins's shooting, plus the city of Decatur, have been dismissed from a lawsuit brought by Perkins's widow.

DECATUR, Ala. — On September 29, 2023, Steve Perkins was shot and killed by former Decatur police officer Mac Bailey Marquette. After his death, his widow, Catrela Perkins, filed a federal civil rights lawsuit naming, among others, four officers on the scene and the City of Decatur.

Now, a federal court has dismissed the lawsuit against three of the officers and the city. Court documents reveal the case has been dismissed against Christopher Mukkadam, Joey Williams, Vance Summers, and the City of Decatur. The case has been partially dismissed against Mac Bailey Marquette, the officer indicted for murder in the death of Steve Perkins.

According to court documents, the dismissals are "without prejudice", meaning that Catrela Perkins has the opportunity to refile her complain and address specific issues on a schedule set by the court.
