ATHENS, Ala. — For Buc-cee's visitors, holiday travel means planning in advance, like checking traffic and routes. "I like to pre-plan a trip," one resident shares. "Like, see what's the best route to go? The easiest route to go."
Some visitors shared that trips with long drive time deserved a good night's rest. "We went to bed really early yesterday, and we woke up really early and we had to stop at Buc-cees because we don't have it in Ohio, so it's an adventure."
Millions will be making separate adventures this holiday weekend and the roads will be pretty busy. On traveler said, "I try to avoid traffic as much as I can but, you know, with the holidays, it kind of sucks being stuck in traffic."
AAA shares that traffic, although unavoidable, can be less stressful if you plan ahead. "We're always talking about travel safety and how to prepare for that and the secret really to kind of plan ahead a little bit," Clay Ingram with AAA shares. "You want to be sure and pad your travel time schedule because it's going to take a good bit longer to get to your destination than it normally does simply because of the sheer volume of traffic."
With the roads expected to be wet this evening, extra caution is advised. "You have to adjust your driving behavior based on the road conditions and that includes darkness and certainly includes rain," Ingram shares. "You don't ever want to use your cruise control in any kind of inclement weather. You really need to slow down and be much more careful than you typically are during a dry daytime drive, because it really does make a difference.
Driving safely this holiday allows to you to get to the more important things, like spending time with family, Thanksgiving, getting together, seeing friends that you haven't seen in a while.
