Rate increase on the agenda for upcoming TVA meeting

The Board meets Thursday to consider a 5.25% hike
When everyone in the Tennessee Valley reaches for their fans and air conditioning, the power grid goes to work. TVA crews hope to keep it that way.

FLORENCE, Ala. — The Tennessee Valley Authority Board will meet on Thursday in a session that is expected to include discussion of a proposed 5.25 percent rate increase.

The meeting begins at 9 a.m. and will take place at the Marriott Shoals Conference Center. Item #4 on the agenda lists a rate change that would take effect in October.

While the public is invited to attend Thursday's meeting, comment is being accepted one day earlier -- Wednesday, from 2-4 p.m., in a "listening session" in the Shoals Ballroom at the conference center. Written comment is being accepted via the authority's website, tvaboard.com.

Thursday's Board meeting will also be streamed live on TVA.com

The Tennessee Valley Authority provides power to about 10 million people across seven southeastern states. The service area includes northern Alabama.
