HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — A fun-filled morning awaits children ages 4-7 as Huntsville Parks & Recreation and the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library (HMCPL) join forces for the third annual Rec and Read event, set to kick off on Monday, July 22. Held from 9-11 a.m. at the Dr. Robert Shurney Legacy Center, this free back-to-school bash is part of a series of July celebrations marking Parks and Recreation Month.

“This is a great event for young children as they get ready to start back to school or, in some cases, start their first year of school,” Parks & Recreation Director James Gossett said. “And we’re excited to work with HMCPL to provide such a unique and entertaining opportunity for the children in our community.”

The morning's festivities begin with interactive storytelling from 9-10 a.m., followed by recreational activities including a foam party, crafts, and popsicles from 10-11 a.m.

"The Huntsville-Madison County Public Library is delighted to partner with Huntsville Parks & Recreation for the third year to bring Rec and Read to our community,” said HMCPL Interim Director Connie Chow. “This program offers children the joy of Storytime and outdoors on a playground, aligning perfectly with our summer reading theme, ‘Adventure Begins in the Library.’ Partnerships like this allow us to serve families where they need us most while fostering a love for reading and enjoying the remarkable outdoor spaces in our area."
