Resourcing Recovery event highlights help for those with substance use disorder

More than 17 local organizations including Not One More Alabama, Wellstone, and Bradford Health Services will be there.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Where can you find help when someone you care about is struggling with substance use disorder? Resourcing Recovery, a free community event taking place in Huntsville on Monday, September 11, is your opportunity to connect to vital resources for those with or affected by substance use disorder.

"Many people are struggling to find answers, for themselves or for others they care about that struggle with substance use disorder," shared Curt Lindsley, Interim Executive Director of the Alabama Alliance for Recovery Residences and sponsor of the event. "Resourcing Recovery is for them. It's a series of community-wide events that addresses the question, 'Where do you turn when someone you care about is struggling with substance use disorder?'"

These events are taking place September 11-13 (in Huntsville, Birmingham and Montgomery, respectively) for Recovery Month. September is recognized as Recovery Month by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)

According to SAMHSA, "National Recovery Month (Recovery Month)....is a national observance held every September to promote and support new evidence-based treatment and recovery practices, the nation’s strong and proud recovery community, and the dedication of service providers and communities who make recovery in all its forms possible."

At each of the Resourcing Recovery community events, attendees will learn about local and state-wide resources, and hear from guest speakers that will talk about the vital services they provide.

Resourcing Recovery Huntsville takes place at Essential Church, and will start at 5:30pm with an Information Fair, where attendees can stop by and talk with individuals one-on-one from organizations that help people in recovery every day.

Exhibitors include Alabama Alliance for Recovery Residences, Best Life Recovery Residences, Birmingham Recovery Center, Bradford Health Services, Clearview Acute Detox Center, Essential Celebrate Recovery, Genesis Medical Detox of The Shoals, His Way, Madison County Area of Narcotics Anonymous, Magnolia Ranch Recovery, New Vision Withdrawal Management, Not One More Alabama, Project Freedom, Recovery Resource Center, ROSS, Self-Recovery and WellStone.

This will be followed at 6:30pm by a jam-packed session with lots of valuable information to help people find local resources.

Curt Lindsley of the Alabama Alliance for Recovery Residences will be emceeing the event. Other speakers at the Huntsville event include Karen Petersen (WellStone), Stephanie Jennings (Best Life Recovery), Ian Henyon (Birmingham Recovery Center), John Bayles (Recovery Resource Center/Crisis Center Inc.), Marbi McCann (Bradford Health Services) and Aubin Cawthon (ROSS)
