HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Rock Church of Huntsville is set to transform the former S.R. Butler High School into Kingdom Heights Preparatory School, aiming to open its doors by fall 2025. The new school will welcome students from kindergarten through high school.
Located at 3401 Holmes Avenue, The Rock Church is looking to start on an $4.65 million renovation project to upgrade the facility, including classrooms, STEM laboratories, improving playgrounds and athletic equipment, and enhancing fire safety. This initial phase will ensure the school opens with fully equipped classrooms and sports facilities.
Additional improvements are planned as part of a Master Plan for the campus, which includes new entrances, signage, more sports complexes, covered walkways, and a new administration building. This upgrade is estimated to cost around $17 million.
S.R. Butler High School, which served the community from its opening in 1951 until its closure in 2015, will see new life as Kingdom Heights Preparatory School. The school's mascot will be 'The Royals,' marking a change from Butler High School's former mascot, 'The Rebels.' The church shared this update on their Facebook page, highlighting the transition with the caption, “From Rebels to Royals.”
The opening date of Kingdom Heights Preparatory School will depend on the progress of fundraising efforts.
