TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Ruth Mary Saban Pasko, the mother of longtime Alabama football head coach Nick Saban, has passed away at the age of 92. Born in Michigan, Pasko spent much of her life in West Virginia, where she met Nick Saban Sr.
According to her obituary from Tuscaloosa Memorial Park and Chapel, Pasko and her husband operated Saban Gulf Service Station and Dairy King, serving the communities of Carolina, Monongah, Farmington, and Fairmont. She was an active supporter of the Pop Warner Black Diamond Football team, contributing to concessions and helping with transportation for the team.
After the death of her first husband, she remarried Bobby Pasko and later moved to Birmingham. Pasko is survived by her children, Dene and Nick, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and her sisters, Fran Popovich and Ginger Hill.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Nick's Kids Foundation or by mailing a check to 1130 University Boulevard, Suite B9-201, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401, to honor her memory.
