Safe Haven Baby Box used for third time in Madison

Following an initial assessment, the baby was taken to a hospital for further evaluation.

MADISON, Ala. — On Monday, the City of Madison announced that a infant had been safely surrendered through the Safe Haven Baby Box at Fire Station 1. Following an initial assessment, the baby was taken to Madison Hospital for further evaluation.

Once the door opens and the baby is placed inside, it locks automatically, and the station's firefighters take over from there. Madison firefighters stated that after the door closes and the alarm sounds, they respond within two minutes.

According to the City of Madison, the Department of Human Resources has been notified and is actively working on behalf of the child.

This marks the third time the Safe Haven Baby Box has been used since January 22.
