Salvation Army looking for donations in last days of the 2023 Red Kettle Campaign

The Salvation Army will have one less day to fundraise outside storefronts, here are some ways to donate.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — With just few days left until Christmas, The Salvation Army is asking the community for support in the final push of their 2023 Red Kettle Campaign. The annual initiative serves as the primary fundraiser for the organization, enabling them to offer year-round assistance to community members facing unforeseen crises or financial hardships.

Major Richard Watts, Commanding Officer of The Salvation Army, expressed the challenges faced by many individuals and families in the community this year.

"As the cost of living has outpaced wages, we have seen a sharp increase in requests for food, rent, and utilities assistance," Major Richard Watts, said.

The impact of inflation has been leading to double-digit growth in homelessness and food insecurity, surpassing rates seen in recent years. In response to these pressing needs, The Salvation Army provided aid to over 12,000 clients last year, helping them stay in their homes, find safe shelter, feed their families, and afford essential utilities.

Given the approaching Christmas Eve falling on a Sunday, The Salvation Army faces a unique challenge, with one less day to fundraise outside storefronts. However, they encourage the availability of 24/7 online giving at HuntsvilleKettle.org, and people can give contributions through mail or drop-off at 2114 Oakwood Avenue, Huntsville, AL, 35810.

Major Watts expressed the organization's immense gratitude for the community's support, saying that every dollar raised stays local to provide essential services.

"The Salvation Army is extremely grateful for the support of our community. Every dollar raised stays local to provide meals to families in need, keep the power on for seniors struggling to pay utility bills, and offer stability and hope for struggling individuals throughout the year," Major Watts, said.

To volunteer, donate, or learn more about supporting The Salvation Army this Christmas and beyond, individuals can visit SalvationArmyHuntsville.org or call 256-536-5576.
