School closings and cancellations for Friday, August 28

These school districts have announced closures due to the risk of severe weather on Friday.

Several Tennessee Valley school districts are either canceling or holding a shortened school day on Friday, August 28, due to the risk of severe weather. Check back often for updates.

Madison County Schools

Due to the threat of severe weather, MCSS will be dismissing faculty and staff at 1 PM today, Friday, August 28th. All extracurricular activities are canceled for the remainder of the day. 

Huntsville City Schools

Due to the threat of severe weather, Huntsville City Schools is ending meal service at 11:30 a.m. today. All athletics and extracurricular activities scheduled for today are cancelled.

Huntsville Achievement School

No after school care at Huntsville Achievement School today. Parents can check out students without penalty against absences.

Arab City Schools

Arab City Schools will close at 1:30 p.m. today due to inclement weather. No afterschool activities.

Athens City Schools

Athens City Schools will dismiss early today on the Pep Rally schedule as planned. However, due to the threat of severe weather, the Pep Rally will be held tomorrow at 3:15 on the square, weather permitting.

There will be no latchkey services today (August 28).

Dismissals are as follows:
Pre-K at 2:00
Elementary Academies at 2:15
Athens Intermediate at 2:30
Athens Middle 2:40
Athens High and Athens Renaissance at 2:30

Big Cove Christian Academy

Big Cove Christian Academy has announced that it will stay closed on August 28.

Colbert County Schools

Colbert County Schools announced that schools will remain closed on August 28.

Florence City Schools

Due to possible inclement weather for the afternoon of Friday, Aug. 28th, Florence City Schools will be dismissing all campuses early. All extra-curricular activities scheduled for Friday afternoon and evening, including our virtual and remote feeding program, have been canceled. 

Schools will dismiss at the following times:

W.C. Handy ECDC - 11 A.M.
Elementary Schools - 11 A.M.
Intermediate School - 11 A.M.
Middle School - Remote Learning on Fridays
High School and Freshman Center - Remote Learning on Fridays

Franklin County, AL Schools

Franklin County Alabama Schools will dismiss today, August 28, 2020 at 12:30 due to possibility of inclement weather.

Lauderdale County Schools

Due to weather conditions, all Lauderdale County schools will dismiss early today at 11:00 a.m. Parents/guardians may pick up their child at school or buses will be running on regular routes beginning at the 11:00 o’clock dismissal. 

Lawrence County Schools

Lawrence County School System will operate on the Remote Learning Model for tomorrow, Friday, August 28th.  No students will be on LCSS campuses.

 Faculty and staff will work at their respective school until 11:15. The remainder of the day will be Remote Teaching from home until 3:00 or earlier if the weather forecast materializes. 

Russellville City Schools

Russellville City Schools will dismiss today, Friday, April 28 at 12:00 p.m. due to the threat of severe weather.  

Sheffield City Schools

Sheffield City Schools announced that schools will close at 12 p.m. on August 28. Sheffield Child Nutrition Program will serve meals from 10:00-11:00 am at Sheffield Junior High School. Please come pick up the meals that you have requested. 

Shoals Christian School

Shoals Christian School has announced that schools will close at 11 a.m. on August 28.

Tuscumbia City Schools

Tuscumbia City Schools has announced that schools will close at 12 p.m. on August 28.
