School and business cancellations, delays, and changes for Thursday, February 17

Some North Alabama schools are changing their schedules on Feb. 17 due to the threat of severe weather.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala — Some North Alabama schools, businesses, and government offices are changing their schedules or closing on Feb. 17 due to the threat of severe weather.

Alabama A&M University:

Due to the threat of inclement weather on-campus operations will end at 3:00 pm today, February 17, 2022. Normal University operations will resume tomorrow, Friday, February 18, 2022.  

Limestone County:

All Limestone County Commission Offices and the Limestone County Courthouse will close today, February 17, 2022, at 3:00 p.m.  

Redstone Arsenal:
Due to the inclement weather, Family and MWR will be closing some facilities early today. 

  • Redstone Lanes Bowling Center closing at 2:00 p.m.
  • Links at Redstone closing at 4:00 p.m.
  • Outdoor Recreation closing at 4:00 p.m.
  • Automotive Skills Center closing at 4:00 p.m.
  • Pagano Gym closing at 4:00 p.m.
  • MWR Library closing at 4:00 p.m.
  • Pershing Welcome Center closing at 4:00 p.m.
  • MWR Administrative Offices closing at 4:00 p.m.
  • Challenger Bingo will not open

Child Care facilities will remain open until their normal closing time. Parents are urged to pick their children up as early as possible.

City of Huntsville:

  • Huntsville municipal court will cancel its 5:30 p.m. docket and 6 p.m. classes. Defendants will be notified of a new setting for their cases.
  • All Parks & Recreation after-school programs and athletic activities are canceled today.
  • A planned public meeting to discuss a historic resource survey of Huntsville’s Magnolia Terrace neighborhood has been rescheduled. The new date is 7 p.m. Thursday, March 3 at St. Joseph Catholic Church Fellowship Hall, located at 2300 Beasley Ave. NW, Huntsville.
  • Due to the threat of severe weather, the Huntsville/Madison County Visitor Center, Huntsville International Airport information desk, and Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) administrative offices will close at 2:00 p.m. today.

    Visitors are encouraged to follow CVB social media channels for updates on attraction closures.

Huntsville Ice Sports Center:

  • Due to the threat of severe weather the Huntsville Ice Sports Center will be closing today, Feb. 17, at 1:00 p.m. 
  • Last activity of the day will be Stick & Puck from 12:00-1:00 p.m.  
  • No evening programs/events today, Thursday, February 17, 2022.

Jackson County AL: The Jackson County Courthouse will close at 3:00 p.m. on Feb. 17, 2022   

Alabama A&M University:

Due to the threat of inclement weather on-campus operations will end at 3:00 pm today, February 17, 2022. Normal University operations will resume tomorrow, Friday, February 18, 2022.  

Calhoun Community College: Due to the threat of severe weather conditions, the physical campuses of Calhoun Community College will close today, February 17, 2022, at 2:30 p.m. Students will transition to virtual learning. 

Cullman County Schools: Dismissing at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2022

Dekalb County Schools: Dismissing at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2022. All after school activities except regional basketball games are cancelled.  

Florence City Schools: On Feb. 17, 2022, Pre-K through 6th grade will dismiss at 11:30 a.m.; grades 7-12 will dismiss at 12:30 p.m. Due to the threat of inclement weather, Boy’s Soccer games on Feb. 17 have been postponed to a future date. 

Franklin County AL: Dismissing at 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 17, 2022

Guntersville City Schools: Extended day services and after-school extracurricular activities are canceled. 

Huntsville City Schools: Dismissing early on Feb. 17, 2022 

  • Elementary schools: 12:30 p.m.
  • Middle and junior high schools, including all grades at AAA and ASFL: 1:00 p.m.
  • High schools: 1:40 p.m.
  • Buses will be running for all schools. All after-school activities, extended day, and athletic events are canceled.

Lauderdale County Schools: Remote learning on Feb. 17, 2022

Lawrence County Schools: Will dismiss at 12:30 tomorrow, February 17, 2022, due to the forecasted severe weather. Please stay weather aware tomorrow.

Limestone County Schools: Limestone County Schools will operate on an early dismissal schedule for Thursday, February 17, 2022. 

Elementary will dismiss at 12:40 p.m. followed by high school at 1 p.m. 

Lincoln Academy: Dismissal at 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 17, 2022.

Madison City Schools: Will dismiss schools early on Feb. 17, 2022:

  • PreK at 12:30 p.m.
  • Elementary schools at 1:00 p.m.
  • Middle and high schools at 1:45 p.m. Bus routes will be adjusted accordingly.
  • All after-school activities will be canceled for tomorrow.

Madison County Schools: Dismissing schools early on Feb. 17, 2022.

  • High School and Middle School campuses will dismiss at 12:15. 
  • Elementary schools will dismiss at 1:00. 
  • ALL after-school activities have also been canceled

Morgan County Schools: Dismissing at 2:00 p.m. on Feb. 17, 2022. All after-school activities will be canceled. 

Muscle Shoals City Schools: Dismissing at 1:00 p.m. Feb. 17. 2022. Extended day services and after-school extracurricular activities are canceled.

Riverhill School: Dismissing at 1:00 p.m. on Feb. 17, 2022 . 

Russellville City Schools: Dismissing at 1:00 p.m. on Feb. 17, 2022.

St. John Paul II Catholic High School: Will dismiss at 1:00 p.m. on  Feb. 17, 2022. All after-school activities are canceled. 

Tuscumbia City Schools: Dismissing at 1:00 p.m. on Feb. 17, 2022.

Westminster Christian Academy: Will dismiss schools early on Feb. 17, 2022: 

  • Lower school will dismiss at 12:45 p.m. 
  • Upper school will dismiss at 1:00 p.m.

Valley Fellowship Christian Academy: Dismissing at 2:00 p.m. on Feb. 17, 2022.
