ALABAMA, USA — On August 27. 2023, staffers at the Starbucks in Scottsboro, AL staged a strike to protest what they call "unfair labor practices."

In a letter outlining the reasons for the action, a two-year partner, Starbucks's term for its employees, said:

"We're overworked, understaffed, things break left and right just to never get fixed. Many of us have fallen and hurt ourselves due to water leaks. We're hoping our strike will show Starbucks that we're stronger together and they can't keep hiding. Our hope is for Starbucks to come to the bargaining table and give us the respect and justice we deserve."

Workers were back on the job on Monday.

Previous story:

In October 31, 2022, a Starbucks in Scottsboro became the second location in Alabama to successfully form a union after an investigation by the NLRB over the union vote.

The location posted the news in post on Twitter:

Partners at the Scottsboro location are now represented by Starbucks Workers United, Southern Regional Joint Board, as a result of the NLRB’s decision.

In August, the store’s union election concluded in an eight-to-eight tie, with four ballots challenged and set aside for examination by the NLRB’s regional director. On Monday, the NLRB concluded that one ballot of the four contested, which had been ripped in half, should be counted in favor of unionization, according to a spokesperson for the organizing committee.
