HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Huntsville Madison County Chamber of Commerce Vice President of Marketing and Communications Claire Aiello explained that this job fair includes companies willing to train high school graduates. "So we want them to be set up on a path for success. we want these students to have a goal, to have their next step, kind of we want to help them figure out what their next step is."
For some students, today has given them clarity on the variety of options available to them. "Well, whenever I was talking to the Madison County School System, she was saying that while I was in college, even if I don't plan to go into the classroom to teach, I'm still able to work with them while I'm doing my two years at Calhoun before a big University," Lee High High School senior Lily Fox explained. "I learned about job opportunities that I didn't even know about," said Steven Rodriguez who is also a Lee High School senior.
"What we've seen today has been a lot of kids coming through that really don't know what they want to be," Trad-Ad Signs Sales Manager Jerry White iterated. However, for some companies attending the job fair that is a plus. "Being able to invest in our up and coming future, telling seniors, you know, that they have different options that a four year degree isn't always required," Trad-Ad Signs Graphics Manager Autumn Poole added.
"I love the ones that come through and say, I have no idea because that is such a challenge for us, and we've been throwing pitching options like the resume program. Sometimes they already have the experience and don't know what it is. Need a good resume? We can help with that. Sometimes they do need experience. We can help with that," explained Department of Labor Employee Representative Deione Crutcher.
For others students, today has given them an opportunity to get a plan in place. "Today I looked at, like, more of engineering stuff because that's what I'm going into like I want to get into a HVAC that is like my goal right now," Columbia High School senior Brandon Hernandez stated.
