SHEFFIELD, Ala. — To the surprise of virtually nobody, it was confirmed this week that singer Lana Del Rey was visiting North Alabama in part to take advantage of the area's legendary recording facilities.
Muscle Shoals Sound Studio made a Facebook post dated July 27 stating that the "Summertime Sadness" singer had dropped in and made a recording the prior weekend.
Photos shared publicly included a few shots of Del Rey with headphones within the studio and posing outside the 3614 Jackson Highway building.
The appearance was reportedly not booked ahead of time, according to AL.com, and Del Rey spent the prior Friday and Saturday evening working there.
Social media lit up last week when photos and video of Del Rey "working a shift" at a Waffle House in Florence, and appearing at other areas within the Shoals, prompting questions as to whether she was working on new material.
Florence is name-checked in the Del Rey hit "Paris, Texas:"
Her sojourn through North Alabama also included a stop at a Russellville boutique shop.
"Thank you Lana for recording and hanging out with the Muscle Shoals Sound crew," the studio's Facebook post reads. "History continues to be made in 2023 for the Muscle Shoals Sound Studio!"
The studio was founded in 1969 and boasts being the place where hits like "Brown Sugar" by The Rolling Stones were first tracked. It has hosted countless singers and bands, from Cher to Simon & Garfunkel, from Willie Nelson to Lynyrd Skynyrd.
