LEIGHTON, Ala. — Leighton is gearing up for a big celebration! Despite its small size of fewer than 700 residents, this community in the Shoals area is bursting with pride and a deep musical history. One of its standout events is Sledgefest, a festival honoring the memory of music icon Percy Sledge. Head to downtown Leighton from June 7 to 9 for a weekend packed with music and fun.

Sledgefest kicks off on Friday, June 7, at 6 p.m. with Amanda Brewer and Soulful Swagger. On Saturday, June 8, Jimmy Hughes Day takes the stage. The music lineup starts at 3:30 p.m. with Studio 502, followed by The Midnighters at 5 p.m., The Pine Hill Haints at 6:30 p.m., and Howell Sledge and the Revue at 8 p.m. Special guests Catara Brae and DJ JROC look to keep the energy high all day. There will also be food trucks, artisans, and vendors to enjoy. On Sunday, June 9, the festival wraps up with a Gospel Afternoon at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church.

Throughout the festival, people can explore special events including the Leighton Farmer’s Market, Leighton Museum at Bank Independent, Leighton Public Library, Women of the Shoals Gallery and Museum, and The History of Radio and Recorded Sound. The event is free and open to everyone. Whether you're a music enthusiast or simply looking for a good time, Sledgefest promises a weekend filled with music, culture, and community.
