HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Huntsville City Football Club will be saying goodbye to interim head coach Christophe Berra after their July 10 match against the New England Revolution. Berra is leaving for family reasons, according to HCFC officials.
HCFC made the announcement in a brief media release July 5 about the game with no further details about who will take over coaching duties following Berra's departure.
Nashville SC sent out a release July 3 which said in part, “In partnership with [general manager Mike] Jacobs, [manager B.J.] Callaghan will support the identification of MLS NEXT Pro affiliate Huntsville City FC’s next coaching staff.”
At a July 8 press event, Berra spoke more about his decision to leave, citing his wife's expectant baby.
"It came to the the point we had to sit there and have a discussion and do what's best for the family," Berra said. "It's just best to be back home around and support the family because we're out here on our own. And it can be difficult times. My wife Carla's enjoyed the experience and made good friends, so it's going to be just as tough for Carla to leave as it is for myself."
Berra took over the reins from Jack Collison in April. Collison's tenure saw Huntsville City FC playing 32 games, securing 9 wins, 14 losses, and 9 draws.
As interim, Berra saw the team collect two wins.
The game against the Revolution will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
