HARVEST, Ala. — On Tuesday morning, the Madison County School System reported that Sparkman High School was among several schools that received a threat through social media. Boaz City Schools also reported that is is on heightened awareness.
In response, the school system sent an email to parents outlining the situation and the steps being taken.
The full email reads:
"Dear MCSS Families,
We want to inform you about a situation we are closely monitoring at Sparkman High and Sparkman 9 campuses. Our commitment to you is to provide accurate information, help prevent the spread of rumors, and maintain transparency. We believe that keeping you informed is key to ensuring your peace of mind.
As of 8:00 a.m., MCSS has moved all campuses to a Heightened Awareness status due to a nationwide social media threat. Sparkman High is the only MCSS campus of several schools mentioned nationally. In response, all MCSS high schools and middle schools will be placed under "Secure Your Area of Responsibility" from 9:50 to 10:30 a.m. During this time, students will remain inside their classrooms.
In line with our safety procedures, we are collaborating closely with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office to verify the threat's credibility. We treat this as a high-priority issue, implementing additional safety measures on campus and deploying extra sheriff’s deputies until the situation is resolved.
We encourage you to play an active role in school safety by discussing its importance with your child and reminding them to report any concerns. Creating an environment where students feel safe and comfortable reporting suspicious behavior is essential for maintaining a secure school environment. The MCSS Safe Schools Tipline is available 24/7 at (256) 536-8355. Your involvement is crucial in ensuring the safety of our school community."
