Remnants of Hurricane Francine cause problems for power lines; sparks fly

The remnants of Hurricane Francine are bringing rain and gusty wind to the Tennessee Valley, downing trees and creating problems for local utilities.

DECATUR, Ala. — Utility workers in Decatur were called to the 700 block of Beltline Road SW to address problems involving power lines in the area.

Strong winds brought those lines into contact, creating a light and sound show along the busy stretch of road, between Spring Ave. SW and Sandlin Road SW.

The situation developed Thursday morning, as rain and wind associated with former Hurricane Francine made its way across the region.

No major outages were reported by Decatur Utilities, but across the Tennessee Valley, crews were called to clear downed trees from roads and tended to additional line problems.
