Standing in Power: The People's Town Hall Meeting

DECATUR, Ala. — In the wake of the shooting death of Steve Perkins in September by Decatur police officers, community members have been demanding answers about what happened and what comes next.

Standing in Power hosted a Town Hall Meeting from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Turner-Surles Center at 702 Sycamore St. NW in Decatur. The purpose was to "help foster an open constructive conversation regarding the current reality this community is facing regarding the police-involved shooting that killed Steve Perkins."

Speakers included Nate Allen, former Police Chief of Decatur, Alison Mollman, Interim Legal Director for ACLU of AL, Community Leader and Entrepreneur Dexter Elliot, Standing in Power co-founders Aneesah Saafiyah, Adrianna Tapscott, and Terrance Adkins, Jonathan Green, Dexter Elliot, and Latasha McCrary. They answered questions about police policy and citizens' rights.
