Standoff situation resolved after disrupting neighborhood in southwest Huntsville

Police tell FOX54 News officials with a U.S. Marshals task force in serving a felony warrant when the suspect barricaded inside a home.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — One person was taken into custody after engaging officers in a standoff situation in a southwest Huntsville neighborhood Monday afternoon.

Huntsville Police confirmed with FOX54 News just after 3 p.m. that officers were assisting a U.S. Marshals task force in serving one felony warrant against a suspect when that suspect barricaded inside a home on Wyandotte Drive, south of Redstone Road.

Deputy Chief Michael Johnson said the warrant being served Monday was for felony fleeing/eluding.

SWAT units were called to the scene and a safety perimeter was created.

The suspect, later identified by police as Bryan Jermaine Edwards, was taken into custody. Normal traffic was resumed on the street by 4:21 p.m., police said. There were no injuries reported as a result of the standoff.

Johnson said Edwards faces a total of nine charges including five felony misdemeanors as well as drug and weapons offenses.

Edwards was booked in the Madison County Jail just after 6 p.m. Five of his charges come with a set bond totaling $46,500. Four other charges are listed as "no bond," according to jail records.
