HUNTSVILLE, Ala — Do you have your STAR ID? If it weren’t for the pandemic, the deadline would be upon us. But, it has been extended.
The Department of Homeland Security has extended the deadline to get your REAL ID or the STAR ID (Alabama's name for the identification card) to October 1, 2021, in response to COVID-19.
The former deadline was October 1, 2020.
You’ll need a STAR ID to board any domestic flight and to gain access to some federal buildings. If you don’t have yours, you can still get it during the pandemic.
We met with Trooper Brandon Bailey, a Senior Trooper with Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. Trooper Bailey tells us, “You have to come in person. There are also required documents you have to bring to show proof of identification.... Please remember it’s only certified copies or original copies.”
To get the STAR ID, go to any ALEA Driver License examining office.
