HUNTSVILLE, Ala — Singer-songwriter Lee Greenwood and a list of country stars are coming to Huntsville.
The veteran performer held a news conference at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center to announce his upcoming concert at the Von Braun Center. While the concert isn't until October 12, lawmakers and community members are already preparing for its impact on the local community.
"Huntsville has a great tourism industry, and it's coming back strong. It's because of events like this that's going to even continue to make us a stronger city. More tourism and dollars being brought into our economy, as well as employing lots of folks," said Huntsville-Madison County Convention & Visitor's Bureau CEO and President Judy Ryals.
Greenwood said he expects around 40 guests to join him on stage, but a spokesperson told WZDX that it will likely be closer to 50.
"I've performed many shows at the Von Braun Center here throughout my career and I absolutely love this venue," said Greenwood. "It's just going to be fabulous."
"Lee started looking at opportunities because he's been a part of entertainment for more than 40 years," said Madison County Commission Chairman Dale Strong. "He chose the Rocket City to bring a great event to the Von Braun Center, of course everyone knows, is a central figure of our community and has brought great entertainment."
Among the announced guests are Sara Evans, Rodney Atkins, Darryl Worley, and Paula Deen. They'll join previously announced artists Michael W. Smith, Lee Brice, Dustin Lynch, Michael Ray, Jamey Johnson, Big & Rich, Randy Owen (of Alabama), Home Free, Sam Moore, The Oak Ridge Boys, Crystal Gayle, Mark Wills, The Frontmen of Country (Tim Rushlow of Little Texas, Richie McDonald of Lonestar, and Larry Stewart of Restless Heart) for the ABC Supply presents An All-Star Salute To Lee Greenwood taking place at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Alabama, on October 12, 2021.
“I continue to be amazed as I learn who my music has impacted or affected. I am honored and thrilled that Sara Evans will be performing and I can’t wait for the audience to see what she has planned. She is a terrific talent along with Rodney and Darryl,” says Greenwood. “I recently awarded Paula Deen the Lee Greenwood Patriot award at a charity dinner in North Carolina and during the auction portion of the event, Paula’s husband was bidding on the auction package to come to this event. After the auction, I joked with Paula about it and invited her to come be part of this special night and she accepted the invitation. She and I will probably surprise some people with what we cook up for that night.”
