ALABAMA, USA — The tenth annual Alabama Fashion week kicks off on July 13. The four day event will feature local designers from all over the state.
The event is put on every year by a local Black-owned business, the Alabama Fashion Alliance (AFA).
“Each day of fashion week has a different event to showcase the variety that makes fashion so unique,” said Ellena LeJeune Smith, founder of AFA. “I am excited for this year’s talent and honored and humbled for this major Alabama Fashion Alliance milestone.”
Each day of the fashion show has a unique theme and location. The lineup for the first event includes a boutique from Decatur.
"We have had designers as far as Los Angeles come and show on our runways and as close as our back yard," Smith explained. "So, we're really excited. "
Some of the fashion events are taking place at local businesses. The fourth and final day of the celebration will include clothing and accessories from designers as far as Atlanta and Maryland. There will be a 'Top Model Walk-Off' competition at the Century BMW showroom on 810 University drive.
