MADISON, Ala. — A medical implant and instrument manufacturing company will close its Madison location, company leaders have announced. Structure Medical's CEO said the decision is part of a "strategic" move that will see the facility move to North Carolina.
Structure makes surgical implants such as bone screws, spinal supports, and dental implants. They also design and manufacture cutting tools (like punches, drill bits, and taps), gauges, biopsy forcep components and micro machining for the medical industry.
CEO Robert Boody cited escalating costs in the Huntsville manufacturing sector as well as the "impact of healthcare pricing pressure" as the impetus behind the move.
“A decision like this is never easy," said Boody. "Our Alabama workforce consists of some of the most skilled and loyal technicians, programmers, engineers, and machinists in the industry. We recognize their enormous contributions to the Structure Medical family and remain committed to making their transition forward as seamless as possible.”
It was not immediately announced how many workers are employed at the Madison facility, but a spokesperson confirmed the company "is providing relocation packages to the local workforce." Structure Medical's website shows the company, founded in 2004 in Naples, Fla., has two facilities in that city (one for corporate headquarters and one manufacturing facility) and one manufacturing facility in Mooresville, North Carolina.
The company said the move of this facility will "complement North Carolina's already thriving implant business."
