MADISON, Ala. — Officials with Madison City Schools are reporting that a student was found with a handgun at Bob Jones High School this morning and thanks to a report by another student, the weapon was found quickly.
A statement from Superintendent Ed Nichols says posted on the district's website says:
I am writing to inform you about an incident that occurred today at Bob Jones High School around 10:10 am. Thanks to the quick and responsible actions of a student who reported a safety concern, we discovered that a student was in possession of a handgun.
Our resource officers acted immediately, within a few minutes, ensuring the safety of all students and staff. The handgun was secured without incident, and no one was harmed.
Nothing at this point of the investigation shows any attempt to harm any staff or students. School officials and the Madison Police Department will continue to investigate.
