LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. — Limestone County Schools on Tuesday announced that one of its elementary schools will shut down for the remaining days of 2024 due to a high number of illnesses on campus.
Sugar Creek Elementary is dealing with what is believed to be a flu outbreak. The campus is located in the town of Lester.
School officials posted the following message explaining the situation:
Good Afternoon,
For the past two days we have been monitoring the amount of sickness among students and staff at Sugar Creek Elementary. Various illnesses have spread throughout the school with the most common being the flu. The decision has been made to close Sugar Creek for the next three days to give our students and staff a chance to recover and stop the spread. Sugar Creek will be closed to students on 12/18, 12/19 and 12/20.
Sugar Creek is the only school in our system impacted at this time, but we will continue to monitor all schools in the district. Please stay safe over the holidays and we look forward to seeing you back on January 7, 2025.
