HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Two people were taken into custody Friday as Huntsville police investigated a home burglary call. A brief standoff took place as officers attempted to take one of the suspects in.
Deputy Chief Michael Johnson said the incident began just before 9 a.m. when officers were responding to a burglary call at a home on Bailey Cove Road. The homeowner told police that guns had possibly been taken from the residence.
An officer en route to the scene came across the suspects' vehicle and attempted to pull the vehicle over.
When the driver eventually did pull over, officers said a man in the passenger seat ran off into nearby Willow Park, where he locked himself into a public restroom and initially refused to come out.
After more than two hours, the man, identified as Daniel Val Trevino Fain, 23, was taken to Huntsville Hospital for treatment of an unrelated medical condition. He is expected to be formally arrested once released from the hospital. Meanwhile the driver, later identified as 51-year-old Charlotte Anne Vanhouden, was arrested without incident.
Johnson said a perimeter was secured around the park area and a SWAT team was called out during the incident out of an abundance of caution.
