HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — If you're looking to buy locally grown products, Sweet Grown Alabama can help you find them.
The state's agricultural branding program launched a new online searchable database and website to make it easier to find farmers in the Tennessee Valley and beyond and the fresh products they have to sell.
There are 23 farms listed in North Alabama from Florence to Cullman.
Each farmer's profile features products, location, social media, their website, and how to purchase items. There's even a calendar of what's in season.
Sweet Grown Alabama brought local offerings to Big Spring Park for a special Farmers Market. Fourteen vendors sold produce, meat, honey products, peanuts and other locally produced items. Folks in downtown Huntsville were able to taste the “sweet” products Alabama has to offer.
Ellie Watson, Director of Sweet Grown Alabama, explains. "We have a great network of farmers in the Cullman, Madison County area, and we want to just to celebrate them today in Huntsville. This is a beautiful community, the citizens of Huntsville love supporting local and they do a fantastic job keeping their dollars local and supporting local farmers. So this is a fun celebration of the farmer in the consumer here."
“This was our first time selling our products outside of the farm. The farmers market was an exciting way to meet people outside of my area and display our brand,” said 2 Mile Cattle Company owner Caleb Elrod. “I brought my children to experience a farmers market and selling our products because they are the future owners of 2 Mile Cattle Company.”
“Farmers markets are a great place to purchase a variety of local products and feel good about where your money is going,” said Watson. “When consumers purchase from local vendors, it helps Alabama’s farm families continue to grow and produce their delicious products.”
