ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. — A prayer vigil honoring 10-year-old Tate Buening and supporting his mother, Kayla White, will be held at Pam Robinson Field at the Alexander Sportsplex on Friday, August 13.
"We all are searching for ways to show our love to Kayla, and we would like to invite everyone that can make it to come join us and bring one flower to place in the outfield to show our love and support to Kayla and her family before she faces one of the hardest days of her life," organizer Amanda Bryant wrote on the vigil's Facebook page.
"She means so much to our community and has contributed greatly to many of us and our area. We love Kayla and we are behind her. This is our chance to show our love to her and her family from all of us here in Alex City and surrounding areas."
10-year-old Tate Buening was killed by his father in a murder-suicide in Harvest on August 6.
Buening's funeral service is set for August 14 at Legacy Chapel Funeral Home and Crematory in Madison, Alabama.
If you're looking for a way to support Buening's family, a GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up in his honor. More than $42,000 has been raised so far. The organizer says that the fund is there, "to help lessen the burden of navigating this unthinkable journey, and for Tate to continue shining his light." Kayla White, Tate's mother, said in a Facebook post that she will use the money, "towards fighting this court system to create better laws to protect our babies from monsters...And whatever else I can to help prevent others from ever feeling this pain."
